Decade Old Cars In India Continue To Sell In Large Numbers.
Among the top selling cars in India, Maruti Alto, which is a decade old continue to sell more than 20000 units every month. The recent buzz is that Maruti is yet launch Alto K10, which will be powered by a K10B series engine that powers the Wagon R, A Star and Estilo models.
Hyundai"s Santro continues to sell more than 7000 units per month and Tata"s decade old Indica models sell more than 11000 units every month.
Experts on this strange aspect of Indians" car choice say that, people rely more on the “tried and tested" cars rather than spare their money with new cars which are yet to be known for its reliability. For instance, Maruti"s second best selling small car Maruti Wagon R, inspite of its boxy looks and retro styling sells more than 11000 units per month.
Car makers in India cannot simply shelf their cars after a particular period like they usually do in foreign countries on their models. Hyundai, which first launched its Santro 12 years ago, finds 7000 plus new customers every month and the company has no plans to phase out this successful model. The company is constantly doing some minor facelifts like multi-reflecting head lamps, better tail lamps, aesthetics like chrome grilles.
Tata Indica model was launched in 1998, the first step of Tata Motors into passenger car segment. Every month, Indica family (Indica V2 Diesel, Indica Xeta and Indica Vista) fetch more than 11000 new buyers. One of the reasons for Indica"s success is its smart design of segment leading leg rooms.
The almost aged cars like Maruti 800 and Hyundai Accent still get a minimum 1500 customers every month, which is quite surprising to the car market watchers because, there are better featured cars and still people buy these cars.
