After Tata, Now Its Hyundai In Gujarat

Hyundai Motors India is making its steps into Gujarat lands by erecting its plant there. The company officials have located Dholera site in this regard and the Gujarat government officials have extended their co-operation. Though the officials of Hyundai motors were impressed with the site, confirmation about the new plant is yet to be made from both sides. The company officials have sent their report to the apex body which is likely to make a decision. Dholera comes under Special Investment Region with 80000 hectares of land situated between the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. It is 90kms from the city limit where the second international air port is suggested by the local government.

In addition, search is also on in other states too said the hyundai motors official. Ford India too negotiated with the Gujarat government for setting up a plant to meet its growing models in another 5 years. Gujarat government is making all efforts to extend its cooperation to the car makers after Tata successfully set the Sanand plant for manufacturing its Nano.

In the meantime, the hyundai motors said it has earmarked Rs 400 crore for erecting an engine plant in the country during the coming three years. The plant will be equipped to deliver 1.5 lakh annual units and will be in full stream during 2013-14 it is expected. The current models, i20 and Verna in the Indian products get the diesel engines from its parent plant. If the local engine plant goes in production stint there would be no more import of engines. The hyundai motors production plant in Chennai will be upgraded to yield more volume from next year, when there will be launch of 3 new models to its portfolio. By selling 5.6 lakh units in 2009 the company has set the target of 6.3lakh unit in 2011.
