Loss Retrieval Disagreed By Hindustan Motor

By By: Vicky.in

Hindustan Motors has come to redefine its strategy to revive from the loss scale. The company, after losing almost half of its net worth, is wooing some overseas car makers including a Japanese company, to extend a contract- based manufacture in its plants. Alternatively, the company is exploring possibilities to recover its models with new variants and components, said the company"s MD for Hindustan Motors. The plant is currently engaged in making vehicles for Mitsubishi of Japan for Lancer and Cedia (sedan), Outlander and Pajero SUV.

However, the plant"s capacity stood at 4000 units against the capacity of 25000 units, during the FY 2009-10. The MD clarified that the revival depends heavily on Mitsubishi"s gesture to expand and derive more CKD from Japan. HM expects at least 75 percent take over of vehicles by Mitsubishi to make a break even to waive out the contractual move. The accurate exploitation of the Chennai plant is to be decided during the end of this fiscal, he added. For its own sake, HM is willing to offer new versions of its super model Ambassador giving more facelifts. This will be in addition to a move of launching 5 versions of the current models during the next two years.

Among the proposed new versions, Ambassador will have two models under the existing engine and will be on production from the FY2011-12. HM is getting a sale of 800 monthly units of Ambassador which is against the company"s motive to have more presence in the personal car segment in India. HM gets just 25 percent of the net turn over from this car and it is planned to double this in another two years, he asserted. The new MD and his aides are sharpening the strategy tools to drive home HM for a steady stint in the Indian car market. The company projects a revival of growth from the combined operations in all its three facilities - Uttarpara, Indore and Chennai- by this fiscal end.
