GM To Go For Sonalika Engine

By By: Vicky.in

General motors is planning to source engines from Sonalika in order to sell its popular model BS IV compliant Tavera in 13 cities of India. Sonalika has already launched its model Rhino which is now BS IV compliant. We can expect a formal announcement regarding the sourcing of Bharat Stage IV compliant engines from Sonalika within the next 7 days.

Although GM India VP P Balendran has stated that Chevrolet (GM) is looking for 3-4 vendors for sourcing Tavera's engine, the company is yet to finalise on this matter. Sonalika Group chairman L D Mittal declined to comment.

But according to reliable sources, GM India has finalised to source BS IV engines for one of its best sellers Tavera from Sonalika, which has already upgraded its own utility vehicle Rhino to the new emission norms.

GM doesn't want to stop the sales of Tavera for long. Tavera has been maintaining sales of about 1,500-1,600 units a month, indicating that dispatches in other locations have increased. GM's Spark, the small car and Tavera , the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) are the iconic models, that made GM popular among Indians.
