GM to launch Chevrolet Volt in 2011

The American car maker informed that they will sell the Chevrolet Volt from December this year in U.S. and from 2011 in India.
Chevrolet Volt is an electric vehicle which uses an internal combustion engine to recharge the battery. GM expects to sell the electric vehicles at the rate of 4000-5000 units per annum.
GM has plans to launch LCV vehicles jointly with SAIC, the Chinese auto maker. GM's Karl Slym mentioned that although the design comes from China, the vehicles will be made in India.
As the LCV segment in India is growing rapidly at the rate of 25% now, GM likes to strengthen its presence in this segment.
GM is on the urge of increasing its R&D employees strength from 1600 to 2100 head counts this year. Besides, GM has invested 0 worth of contracts with its Indian component suppliers during the first quarter of this year.
