Ford India Plans In Expanding Business
According to Michael Boneham, President and MD, Ford India had said that Figo is a game changer for them. Experts say that Figo is also a life saver for the American Giant in the Indian auto market.
Ford Figo, the affordable smart hatchback car is now in the top 10 list of highest selling cars in the country with more than 21000 cars running on road and Ford is preparing to deliver 4000 booked cars to the customers by July 2010. Figo was booked by 25000 customers within the first 100 days of the car's launch in India. In order to quicken the deliveries of Figo, Ford India commenced the second shift in manufacturing Figo and now the Ford's Chennai plant facility has increased to 1.40 lakhs per annum.
Boneham said that the company is giving equal importance to all the car segments and Ford India will be growing with new car launches every 12 to 18 months. Ford India is making Chennai plant as an export hub, as it started exporting Figo cars to South Africa as well. Ford's engine production plant in Chennai has the capacity to produce 2.5 lakh units every year and the 1.6 L petrol engines produced here are supplied to Ford's Thailand facility too. Ford India is constantly improving its after-sales service department and will work on more innovative ideas for better customer satisfaction.
