Ford India, which commenced the second shift operations in order to produce more cars and provide the cars quickly to the waiting customers has a target to clear the backlogs by delivering 4000 cars in this month alone. Ford is also likely to strengthen its work force by recruiting 1000 more employees. Ford Figo has received tremendous demand from the buyers due to its affordable price, good mileage and an overall value for money package.

The Ford's plant in Maraimalainagar, near Chennai has the capacity to produce 1 lakh units of cars and now with the commencement of second shift operations, the production is ramped up to 1.40 lakh units. Ford received 25,000 bookings within the first couple of months of the car's launch. So far, Ford has delivered 21,000 Figos to the customers and will now clear the backlog by delivering 4,000 cars in July 2010.

Ford Figo is also being exported to South Africa. So far, 1,200 cars is sailing to reach Durban as Completely Built Units (CBU). Out of the 1,200 cars, 600 cars are petrol and 600 cars are diesel. Ford will continue to export the cars as per the demand from the South African Market. Also, Ford's engine plant is helping the company to export 2,500 units of the 1.6 L petrol engines that powers the Ford Fiesta to Thailand market. Ford's engine production facility in Chennai has an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units per year.
