Force Motors Minidor Production Halted
Force Motors is shifting focus from its specialised domain of public transport to personal transport as it is planning to launch a SUV soon as told by Force Motor's Chaiman. He added that the new SUV will be completely different from Force Motors' Trax which is used as Multi-Utility Vehicle in Rual Regions of India.
The company's chairman said that its 50-50 JV with MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, known as MAN-Force, that makes HCV(Heavy Commercial Vehicles) as of now, will roll out the first of the inter-city coaches by Diwali season. He added that the the inter-city coach has been fully localised and the body is being built by Azad of Jaipur. The bus, like the trucks, will carry the MAN brand and have plans to make low-floor city buses too, he said.
Force Motors mainly focus on small commercial vehicles including Trump, MUV including Trax and City Coach Traveller. Now, Force Motors will foray into SUV and Buses segment. Force Motors has manufacturing presence in Akurdi near Pune and Pithampur, near Indore, in Madhya Pradesh, where its equal JV, MAN Nutzfahrzeuge is also located.
Force Motors is doing slow business, especially in the LCV category as it sells only 600 units of Trump although they could sell 2000 units. The main drawback is the shortages of components, from tyres to rotary fuel pumps. Tyre makers, for instance, are unable to meet demand from the OEMs and the after market. Apart from these issues, casting and forgings are other divisions which are not available due to sudden crank up in demand. The company's chairman stated that the shortage of supply is affecting MAN Force trucks too.
Force Motors is a sole supplier of engines to Mercedes Benz and it makes all the engines, chassis, gear boxes, axles, etc for its entire product range on its own. Force Motors also makes the cab and nine-speed gear boxes for its joint venture, MAN Force Trucks.
Force Motors is determined to sell 5000 trucks in 2010, but the supplier constraints is affecting it to achieve this. Also, Force Motors is planning to bring in more haulage vehicles with low power ratings than the European vehicles because, there is a demand in that segment.
