Fiat India Exports Cars To SAARC Countries
According to Company's Marketing Head Tarun Khanna, Fiat is planning to export our cars Palio and Punto hatchbacks as well as Linea Sedans in SAARC countries which includes Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh mainly because, in all these countries, right hand driving system is followed".
Fiat India began its exports last year. Fiat has exported 1,1000 units of its Grande Punto hatchback, 360 units of Linea and 650 units of Palio, summing up to 2000 units. All these cars were shipped to South Africa, which is the only country that Fiat has exported so far.
Interestingly, owing to the demand of alternate fuel powered cars among the people, the Italian car maker is ready to launch CNG variant of Grande Punto, along with a high powered variant of to satisfy the speed enthusiasts. Mr. Khanna declined to reveal any time frame for the launch of Punto CNG and powerful Linea.
Expecting over 60 per cent sales' growth in exports on the back of its new launches this year, Fiat India, a joint venture between Fiat and Tata Motors, is planning a sale of 40,000 units.
Fiat India sells about 2500 cars every month and its hatchback car Punto sells at the rate of 1500 units per month. Fiat"s production Unit in Ranjangaon, Pune, has the capacity to produce 2, 00,000 cars and 3, 00,000 engines every year.
Fiat launched the powerful variant of Grande Punto 90 HP recently. Fiat announced that it will gradually phase out its Palio hatchback. Fiat is now gearing up to re-launch the Fiat 500 to attract the buyers of premier compact car segment, Punto CNG and the powerful Linea.
Fiat will join the list of other car makers like Hyundai and Ford who have already made their production house in Chennai as the export hub, exporting their cars to neighboring countries. Ford recently began its exports of Figo cars to South Africa and now its Fiat exporting Punto cars to the same country.
