Electric Vehicles Drift To Infrastructure Constraints
Same sort of views were replicated by the people from GM, asking for the government"s initiative for new policies for electric vehicles. The company"s VP for India said that such moves will end up with the reduction in the price of the vehicles and encourage the makers to come out with more models. He narrated the hesitation in launching the electric vehicles in India due to infrastructure constraints but expressed the willingness to join the foray once the facilities are sufficiently erected.
Mahindra Motors, after acquiring the Bangalore-based Reva Electric Motor, has launched its electric Revai for Rs3.10 lakhs but still is not up to the expectation. The company is making efforts to erect a new plant in Bangalore with the capacity of 30000 units a year. Mahindra Reva aims to grow with its launch to reach the target of 3600 units in another 18 months ( the current sale volume is 1200 units). For this, the company is understood, development in infrastructure is more needed. The company"s Chief Operations Officer said the company feels to tap the customers now, which is the right time by rectifying the necessary infrastructure constraints. As an ad hoc set up, Mahindra is building local charging points in select cities by getting tie-up with Anil Ambani Group"s BSES in Delhi. By this, there will be local charger points and he demanded the all out support from the government.
