Daimler Offers Contract Manufacturing

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles is coming forward to manufacture cars on contract basis, from its upcoming Chennai plant, said its VP for Marketing and Sales. The company is the subsidiary of Daimler, the world"s largest truck maker and is on the initiative of investing Rs 4400 crore for the new facility under construction near Chennai with the annual capacity of 36000 units. He said all possibilities will be considered for manufacturing vehicles under contract, besides retaining the original prominence on focus. He said the company is exploring all such possibilities. Daimler India is targeting to enter the Indian commercial vehicle market with its 6-49 tonne category truck in another two years.

The company"s truck models include Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Fuso, Western Star, and Detroit Diesel. There will be a roll out of 15 versions from its Fuso platform under Mitsubishi image, where it has 85 percent stake on Bus and Truck wing.
