Chevrolet cars to cost more by 2-3% in July 2010

While auto makers in India are having a good time selling more and more cars during April May period this year, the irksome issues like rise in commodity prices like steel and rubber since the second quarter of 2009, are forcing the car makers to make the customers share their burden by an increase in car prices.

GM India's VP, P.Balendran has informed that the company will be increasing its prices across all eight models (Spark, Beat, Aveo, Aveo-UVA, Optra, Cruze, Tavera and Captiva) by 2-3% from July onwards. Overall, commodity prices have gone up by 25% in recent days.

Toyota is also looking to increase its car prices and will take a call by this month end due to the increase in commodity prices, according to Sandeep Singh, the Deputy MD(marketing) of TKM.

It should be noted that despite of the car manufacturers price hikes striking thrice since Jan 2010, for rise in input costs, 2% excise duty rise and for BSIV emission norms, the sales charts are always showing North, for instance, Maruti has sold more than 1 lakh cars in May 2010, followed by 42000 plus cars by Hyundai in the passenger car segment.
