Caterpillar Invests USD 700 Million For Increased Production
Caterpillar's Corporate Spokesperson Mr. Jim Dugan informed that Caterpillar produces trucks for the mining industry at a facility near Chennai, and the company's increased investment in that facility is a sign of its belief in that operation and the products made by their team in India. Caterpillar is working out to rise the plant capacity, particularly for 60 and 100 tonne trucks at the existing manufacturing facility. The plant is also being equipped to double the manufacturing capacity of 100-tonne 777D and 60-tonne 773E trucks by 2012.
Caterpillar is the world's largest maker of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines with its headquarters in Peoria in Illinois. Now its growth plans included a mining shovel production line at its Aurora plant in Illinois besides expanding truck production in Decatur in Illinois as well as in Thiruvallur, near Chennai.
With plans to ramp up the production, Caterpillar will increase the head counts at all plants as per the demands. Also, the company foresees this expansion to support the 30% increase in truck production of the Decatur plant which manufactures the 400-tonne model.
Caterpillar's new mining shovels will range from 125-tonne to 800-tonne models. Caterpillar in India acquired the Hindustan Motors earth moving equipment division during 2001 and it is a 100 % subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc USA. As the emerging economies like in India and other Asian countries grow quickly, mining trucks will still be an essential one in mining sites. You may wonder where these trucks, because one can rarely see it on our roads. The fact is, the trucks are working in mine sites located in remote area.
