BMW X1 To Launch On Dec 23
The German car maker BMW is on the finishing stage of launching its iconic luxury car X1 in another week. This SUV will roll out as the cheapest among the segment Rs23 lakhs and will be available in petrol and diesel versions. There will be two basic models, BMW X1 Corporate Edition and BMW X1 Highline; the petrol version will be of 1.8L engine and the diesel with 2.0L engine.
The car will be assembled in the Chennai plant as imported CKDs and in future the car will be manufactured in India. X1 will come with 1955cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine and X1 sDrive20d for effecting 176bhp peak power with 35.5kgm peak torque. The speed of this BMW car will be unbeatable, 6-speed; while Corporate Edition is coming with 1.8lit petrol engine releasing 150bhp.
Meanwhile, BMW India has taken away the top luxury car maker"s position from Mercedes Benz this year. From Jan to Nov 2010, the company has sold a total of 5,345 units of its cars as compared to the 5,109 cars sold by Mercedes Benz. The company also plans to invest as much as Rs 70 crore for its Indian operations by 2012.
