BMW On Another Expansion Spree

The German car maker BMW is on the verge of expansion spree again within a year as it faces demand for its cars. The company"s Chennai facility has the capacity of 3000 units annually which the company is likely to increase to 8000 by early next year.

The scheme comes under the company"s investment plan at Rs180 crore by 2012. The President of the company for India said that there is a great demand for the cars from it and the result is the launches of locally assembled and imported units, SUVs by 2012.

The majority of components will be utilized for the designing of compact suv, X1 slated for launch in January 2011. BMW is fully aware of the net sale of 9959 units (rise by 40 percent) during April-October 2010, says a report from SIAM. The prospective purchasers of luxury cars are those businessmen in select cities. Incidentally, last month a batch of 150 local businessmen of Aurangabad bought Mercedes-Benz, one on each day.
