BMW Chennai Plant Release 10,000th Units

The end of this year 2010 will see BMW Chennai will launch its production of BMW X1. The Chennai facility has the capacity of 5400 units annually on a single shift system. The year end will also see the increased number of employees by 400 and the latest amount of investment for this facility has been Rs1.1 billion. The BMW group is on the increased investment tune to Rs1.8 million in another two years. With its headquarters at Gurgaon, BMW India is functioning as 100% subsidiary of the group. Apart from car manufacturing, the group has a central spare parts warehouse in Mumbai, and dealer development organization in major metropolitan cities across India. The President of BMW India said that the company has taken the lead in the premium car segment for the first time in 2009, the task is to maintain that lead by fueling a new wave of sensation.
By launching new products, he said further, the company is all set to increase the sale volume in coming years and the indigenous production will effect the cost reduction too. Another major revamping task is expansion of dealer network in order to penetrate all sort of potential customers. The dealerships will be designed on international standards in almost all metropolitan cities and by next year the number of dealers will be around 22 in these cities. Further increase will be on the new markets which may be around 18 providing job opportunities to more than 1200 persons through the dealer and sale network.
