Tata motors and Nissan will roll out a van in 2011

JV between Tata motors and Nissan is strenthening as the two firms have proposed to manufacture a van. V Sumantran, the executive vice chairman of Hinduja Automotive who also holds the chairman position for Nissan Powertrain has said that NV200, a new van will be made available for both passenger variant and goods carrier variant.

Interestingly, Palmer, senior vice president of Nissan Motor company mentioned that as Tata motors has expertise in commercial vehicles, they will offer the good carrier while Nissan will provide the passenger van.

Launch of NV200 means an increase in competition in the van segment. Currently, Omni, Eeco and Tata Winger vans lead the market and with the Mahindra planning for a van launch, further intensifies the battle.

The JV venture has plans to start an exclusive plant for LCV while presently, both the companies have targets of producing 1.5 lakh vehicles per annum

Three vehicles are produced initially. They are a f24 platform featuring trucks and buses of 5-7-5 tonne gross vehicle weight range. These vehicles will be powered by 3 litre, 4 cylinder CRD engines and obviously they are BS III/IV compliant.

Also, out of the proposed 3 products, 2 of them will be manufactured in the Hosur plant , while Nissan will dish out one vehicle from the oragadam plant. The two companies will roll out their first vehicle from 2011 onwards.
