Maruti Calls For 6000 Altos To Fix Oil Leakage

One of the company"s spokesman informed that this oil leakage cannot be termed as a recall, because if Alto is affected, it may show some starting issue, but that can be easily repaired at the workshop. Maruti has requested 800 sales network centers and more than 2700 service workshops to check and repair the affected Alto cars with oil leakage in the country.
Alto is the largest selling car in India (more than 20000 units sold per month) and hence, Maruti is uncertain on the number of cars affected by oil leakage.
Maruti Alto"s current problem started when the car maker tweaked the F series engine of old Alto to upgrade for BSIV emission standards that was implemented from April 2010. According to an auto expert, the engine comes with some design changes incorporated in its core structure, which could have led to this problem. It can affect the pressure in the engine and also impact car"s performance.
Maruti dealers in Delhi NCR have asked customers to get their Alto rectified at the earliest after it started receiving complaints of oil leakages during May and June, people familiar with the matter said.
According to a Delhi based dealer, they are yet to be informed by the company as how many Alto cars have this problem, but so far they have called 28 customers to bring the cars for technical evaluation.
Like any other car maker, Maruti doesn"t want this minor issue to cause a dent on its quality and public trust. Also, Maruti is facing stiff competition from rival car makers with their aggressively priced cars. Maruti is getting ready to launch an upgraded powerful Alto K10 with the new K series engine in August.
