People's Car Reached Srinagar

Tata nano

People call it by different names. To some, it's 'people's car', whilst others call it a 'revolutionary car'. Yes, you guess it right. We are talking about none other than the 100,000 rupee car -Tata Nano(Have your fingers already started counting how much money it is? Well, it is a lakh in indian currency. Indeed revolutionary, isn't it?)

The story goes back a few years ago, when the company, Tata, promised to make a car that would change the way you would travel, and today, they have finally delivered. The story so far had been interesting. With so much of talks about the car even before it was launched, people feared that the car may just not be launched. But tata motors cleared the clouds of apprehensions when it finally launched its much-awaited Nano car at Mumbai on March 23. The car is been making rounds since then, giving every one a chance to have a quick peep into the car.

Now, this is where the show gets interesting. The car had reached Srinagar recently, and needless to say, it got an overwhelming response from the people there. The best part is that even though official booking for Tata's Nano is yet to begin, more than 2000 residents have already expressed their eagerness to buy this car. "As far as excitement of people is concerned, it is really overwhelming. We were getting regular enquiries for the last few months.

Our phones were busy throughout the day with people asking when the car is coming and as to what are the features and what kind of a car it is," said Ghulam Nabi Baba, Manager, tata motors showroom. "Our dream has been fulfilled that we have seen Nano. A lot of people were there who couldn't afford cars costing two to three lakhs of rupees. But they can buy a car which is being manufactured and sold, costing 1,80,000 rupees and even 1,25,000 rupees," said Parvej Ahmad, a resident of the valley.

Because of the high demand, the manufacturer of the car has set up such a unique pre-ordering system that it allows all the potential customers to sign up with booking forms. After all these forms have been collected, a computer will randomly choose the first 100,000 people to take possession in July. So, for all those of you who had already planed to have a hand on the car, things won't be that easy mate.

The Nano can be booked at more than 30,000 locations in 1,000 cities across India, including Tata-owned departmental and electronics stores, with booking forms costing 300 rupees each. Despite being launched six months behind schedule in a subdued market, with production in the first year severely constrained and the threat of further ratings downgrades hanging over the company, this Nano car has been welcomed by the people of India. And the wait seems to be procrastinated ever and again. The company has said that it will take over a year to deliver the first 100,000 cars. But all seems to be well. It's the people's car after all!
