Honda Civic Hybrid Not To Be Sold In India

There are many reasons why a car doesn't succeed. It could be the design, either too modern and futuristic or very outdated. It could be the passenger comfort, the lack of it actually or may be because; people just don't find it attractive enough. Whatever maybe the reason the Honda Civic Hybrid will no longer be available in any of the Honda show rooms across the country.

The car was in the news just weeks ago when Honda announced a mouth gaping 8 lakh rupees discount for the car, which sold out every Civic hybrid there is within 10 days. Initially Honda had brought in around 350 units for the Indian market, of which only about 60 were sold in the first 5 months. The brilliant hybrid technology with an electric motor and petrol engine delivered an exceptional 22 kpl.

This however came at a price of Rs. 21 lakhs. Now to buy a Civic Hybrid, one would have to wait for 3 to 4 months or more, for the car to be imported. It is sad that the first hybrid to arrive in Indian roads has suffered such a fate.

Perhaps the government could have introduced tax cuts sending a message to all car makers emphasizing the importance of environment conservation and the need to move towards alternate power sources.
