sx4 : A Masculine Indian Car

Like many other car manufacturers, Maruti, the prestigious Indian car makers, also has recognised the need of the times, that is, big, luxurious but affordable cars. Maruti had so many successful examples before them like 'Honda City', Hyundai Verna, Ford Fiesta etc... On their turn Maruti Suzuki has unveiled their 'flagship product', 'Maruti Suzuki SX4', which the company claims to be the tallest, widest and longest car on Indian roads. Maruti has launched the car with a 1.6 liter, petrol engine and reports say that the diesel model is likely to be launched in 2008. The car is all the more affordable as it is priced at Rs 6.18 lakh, nearly 9% cheaper than segment leader Honda City.

The SX4 will play a critical role in Maruti's evolution from a leading mini car maker to a 'complete" car maker," Maruti managing director Jagdish Khattar said. The SX4 is available in two variants, the top end ZXi costing Rs 6.89 lakh that carries safety features like dual air bags, an anti-lock braking system and electronic brake-force distribution, features that are not available in most of the same segment cars. SX4 is fully a global car with all stylish design and advanced technological features.

SX4 comes with an advanced next generation M Series engine of Suzuki, which will produce a maximum power of 102 bhp and also has a high torque of 145Nm at 4200 rpm. It's 4 valve, 1.6 litre engine will meet the stringent Bharat IV stage emission norms.

SX4 is a specious car in the class with enough headroom and legroom and with a highest ground clearance of about 190 mm. The SX4 sedan has an aggressive and a sporty wedge shape front fascia and grille. New headlamp cluster creeping into the bonnet, gives the car an elegant look. Its muscular and athletic stance is enhanced by its arched fenders, while the body features a low, rising waistline and large, triangular-shaped windows forward of the front doors to emphasize the car"s great traction and dynamic performance. From the back though the SX4 is not an eye catching design, larger tail gate and rear bumper will enhance its practicality. Shortly, exterior is elegant and dynamic. SX4 sedan has wider door openings which provide the driver and passengers with superior ease of entry and egress, also the large cabin proportions and command seating position optimize visibility to enhance driving confidence and control.

The suspension, safety and special features are suited for Indian conditions. The rigid body structure consists of a reinforced cabin structure nestled between front and rear crushable zones. The body structure will also facilitate good ride quality on poor conditions. For protection in side collisions, there are front and rear side door impact beams.

SX4 by all means is a a great car to own if somebody is looking for great power and comfort of a big car. For sure, SX4 will be one of the best loved Indian cars in the coming days.
