Upcoming CNG Cars In India – Hatchbacks To SUVs

Tata Altroz CNG

Tata is keen on expanding its CNG lineup of products in India after tasting the success of Tata Tiago i-CNG and Tata Tigor i-CNG models in the country. Moreover, with the launch of the CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Motors will be eager to launch the CNG version of the Altroz premium hatchback in the country to further increase the overall sales figures.

That being said, the CNG version of the Tata Altroz hatchback has been spotted a few times testing in India and we expect the upcoming premium CNG hatchback to use the same 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated engine that does duty in the Tata Tiago i-CNG and the Tata Tigor i-CNG.

This engine produces 84.82bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque in standard form. However, using the CNG fuel, the same engine produces slightly lower power and torque outputs at 73bhp and 95Nm of torque. Moreover, this engine will come equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

When launched, Tata Altroz is most likely to be the safest CNG hatchback you can buy in India as the standard model is currently the safest hatchback you can buy in India with a 5-Star safety rating from Global-NCAP.

Toyota Glanza CNG

While Maruti Suzuki recently launched the much-awaited CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback in India, the Japanese automaker will be now looking forward to launching the CNG version of the Glanza hatchback in the country.

On top of that, we expect the upcoming CNG version of the Toyota Glanza hatchback to be also powered by the same 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, 4-cylinder engine that powers the CNG version of the Baleno hatchback in the country.

This engine in the Maruti Suzuki Baleno S-CNG produces 89bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque in standard form. However, using CNG fuel this engine produces 76bhp of peak power and 98.5Nm of peak torque. Also, the 5-speed manual gearbox will be the sole gearbox option in the CNG variant.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG

While Maruti Suzuki launched the 2022 iteration of the Brezza SUV in India, the automaker is yet to launch the CNG version of the Brezza SUV in the country to further improve its overall sales figure and market share.

Also, the recently leaked information also reveals that the upcoming CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza will also sport automatic transmission. If true, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG will not only be the country's first CNG SUV, but also the country's first CNG vehicle with an automatic gearbox.

We expect the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG to be powered by the same engine that powers the newly launched Maruti Suzuki XL6 S-CNG. This 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated engine in the XL6 S-CNG produces 99bhp of peak power and 136Nm of torque. However, this engine just produces 87bhp of power and 121Nm of peak torque using CNG.

Tata Punch CNG

While Tata Punch SUV became an instant hit among Indian customers, the automaker is now looking forward to launching the CNG version of the SUV to further improve its sales figures. Moreover, the upcoming Tata Punch CNG would be one of the safest CNG vehicles you can buy as the standard model comes with a very reassuring 5-Star safety rating from Global-NCAP.

We expect the CNG iteration to be powered by the same engine as Tata Tiago i-CNG and Tata Tigor i-CNG. This engine is a 1.2L Revotron petrol engine with 84.48bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque.

However, using CNG fuel, the same engine produces just 73bhp of peak power and 95Nm of torque. Also, the 5-speed manual transmission will be the sole gearbox option available with the CNG version of the Tata Punch SUV.

Kia Carens CNG

The Kia Carens is one of the best-selling MUVs in the country. However, Kia India is planning to further increase its market share in the country with the launch of the CNG version of the Carens MUV in India.

Though the standard variant of the Kia Carens MUV comes with a choice of three engine options. An earlier spy shot has revealed that the CNG version of the Kia Carens MUV will sport the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

This engine in the standard form produces 138bhp of peak power and 242Nm of peak torque. However, we are not sure about the power output of this powertrain using CNG fuel, but we do expect the model to sport a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.
