Hyundai Ioniq 5 Launch Sooner Than Expected – Checkout All The Details
Hyundai Motor India has now confirmed the launch of the much-awaited Ioniq 5 electric crossover by announcing the introduction of e-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) in India. Moreover, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover is the first EV to utilise the South Korean automaker's e-GMP platform.
However, Hyundai is yet to announce the launch date for the Ioniq 5 crossover in India, but we expect the company to launch the model after showcasing the electric crossover at the upcoming Auto Expo in January.
"Our Electric Mobility campaign in India began in 2019 with the launch of India's first electric SUV - Hyundai Kona Electric. As we continue to challenge possibilities and dynamics of mobility, our pursuit of innovation is perfectly reflected in the Electric Global Modular Platform - e-GMP" said, Mr Unsoo Kim, MD and CEO of Hyundai Motor India.
Earlier, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover had been spotted testing in Chennai wearing heavy camouflage stickers. Moreover, the electric crossover from the South Korean automaker is the sister model of the recently launched Kia EV6 electric crossover and both electric vehicles are underpinned by the same e-GMP platform.
However, unlike the fully imported (CBU) Kia EV6 electric crossovers sold in India, the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover is most likely to be locally assembled in the country to overcome the high taxes on fully imported vehicles.
Also, the launch of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover will further expand the South Korean automaker's EV product portfolio in the country.
Speaking about the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover, the name 'Ioniq' is a combination of two words "ion" and "unique". Like its name, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover electric crossover looks quite futuristic and unique with its sharp and edgy styling.
Noticeable features on the exterior of the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover include a pair of dual U-shaped LED DRLs, rectangular LED tail lamps, 20-inch alloy wheels, pop-out door handles, raked rear glass, and an integrated rear spoiler.
On the inside, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover electric crossover looks at least 10 years ahead of its time with its futuristic-looking cabin design coupled with the usage of environmentally friendly materials. However, the design and colour combination of the interior is not to everybody's liking. Also, noticeable features on the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover include a pair of 12-inch screens with BlueLink connectivity and a full-colour heads-up display (HUD).
In terms of powertrain options, Hyundai currently offers the Ioniq 5 electric crossover with two different battery pack options. This includes a smaller 58kWh battery pack and a larger 72.6kWh battery pack. In addition to these variations, Hyundai also offers both 2WD and AWD variants of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover.
Moreover, the 2WD variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover is powered by a single 215bhp electric motor with 350Nm of peak torque, whereas the AWD variant of the electric crossover comes equipped with two electric motors powering each axle and producing a combined power of 302bhp and 605Nm of torque.
In terms of range, the ‘long-range' variant equipped with the larger 72.6kWh battery pack and 2WD set-up is rated to cover more than 481kms per full charge. Thanks to the CKD route, we expect the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 to be priced anywhere between Rs 35 lakh to Rs 45 lakh.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric Crossover
With the premium EV segment steadily gaining traction in the Indian automotive market, the launch of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover will give the South Korean automaker decent authority in the premium EV segment in India.
