Ola Electric Move OS 2.0 Update Review - Worth The Wait?

So What Exactly Is Move OS 2.0?

Move OS 2.0 is a major software update to the software system of Ola Electric's S1 and S1 Pro scooters. The new Move OS 2.0 brings with it a host of changes that include a new riding mode (Eco) for better range, on-board navigation and cruise control among others.

We tested out the new features on a S1 Pro lent to us by Ola Electric. Let's us break it down for you...

Eco Mode

The biggest change from Move OS 2.0 comes in the form of a new riding mode - Eco. In Eco Mode, Ola claims a range of 170 kilometres for the S1 Pro. Riders can engage Eco mode by long pressing the mode selector button on the electric scooter (marked by the lightning bolt).

During our testing, switching the S1 Pro to Eco mode paired back the throttle response which meant that we didn't get the kick off the line that is usually present in other modes when we twisted the throttle.

Thankfully, Ola doesn't put an artificial speed limiter when Eco mode is switched on, so you will be able to go fast. However, getting to those speeds will just take a little bit longer.

Ola recommends travelling at speeds up to 45km/h to achieve the best range, which we found to be perfect for riding in the city. During our brief period of testing, we found the S1 Pro delivering quite a bit better range in Eco mode. Considering quite a few riders have already achieved over 200kms on a single charge, we find Ola Electric's claims to be quite believable.

On-board Navigation

The new Move OS 2.0 update from Ola Electric brings with it on-board navigation thanks to MapMyIndia. The new navigation screen can be accessed by swiping left on the electric scooter's large display. The large full-screen layout looks fantastic and is easy to read.

To key in your location, all you have to do is type out the location using the on-screen keyboard which is large enough for even those with the chunkiest of fingers to use with ease.

On the move, we found MapMyIndia's navigation system to be accurate most of the time. However, we did note that the GPS was a bit slow to respond at times. Also, the accuracy of the navigation system depends on the network connection available for the in-built sim connection.

Cruise Control

Cruise control is a first-in-class feature that arrives for Ola Electric S1 Pro scooter with the new Move OS 2.0 update. Owners can activate the new cruise control feature on the S1 Pro in Normal, Sport and Hyper modes by pressing the cruise control/reverse button (top right button on the left D Pad between 20 and 80km/h.

The cruise control icon lights up in green whenever the feature is activated. If the rider slips below or over the prescribed speed limits, the icon changes to Orange to indicate the unavailability of the function. In order to improve the safety of the feature, any input on the brakes or regenerative braking or change in throttle inputs when the feature is active will also deactivate Cruise Control. During our time with S1 Pro, the new cruise control feature worked like a charm, allowing us to cruise along without any worries.

Music On The Go

The fun part of the Move OS 2.0 comes in the form of Music On The Go. The Music On The Go turns your Ola Electric scooter into a portable boombox allowing owners to play music through the built-in speakers. Owners can pair their phones with their scooters through Bluetooth and play their favourite tunes on the go through your phone's media player or any music streaming app to play music on the scooter.

Bluetooth connectivity is brilliant and we found the S1 Pro connecting to our devices seamlessly once the first paring process is done. The switchgear can be used to control the volume and to play/pause. We found the speakers to be tinny with high treble and barely noticeable bass.

So is there anything else that I should know?

The new Move OS 2.0 also brings with it a few other changes including the ability to lock/unlock the electric scooters using the companion app. This is useful for those in a hurry to get on the move.

Final Thoughts On Ola Electric's Move OS 2.0 Update

Ola Electric's Move OS 2.0 software update brings a host of needed upgrades to Ola's electric scooter lineup. The new Eco mode should help curb range anxiety issues while the cruise control and on-board navigation should make riding around it the city an easier experience.

The new music functionality seems a bit gimmicky while the companion app does add more functionality to the overall experience. In the end, we can say that the Move OS 2.0 software update was totally worth the wait and customers should update their scooters as soon as the option is available.
