Hero Mavrick 440 Review: A Title Contender for the 440cc Segment?
When I say a motorcycle has a 440cc oil/air-cooled engine which produces 27bhp and 36Nm of torque, and has the numbers '440' as a part of its name, what motorcycle comes to your mind? Well, what if I told you that you could be wrong... I mean, it is a Hero motorcycle, but without a collaboration.
Hero recently launched their new motorcycle for the competition, the Mavrick 440, at a starting price of Rs. 1.99 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom), and that's for the base variant. The top-end variant comes priced at Rs. 2.24 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom).

The motorcycle has attracted a lot of attention among the masses, not just for it's design but also for its engine. So, when Hero invited us to ride the new Mavrick 440 at the Rann of Katch (yes, again), we packed our bags, jumped on a flight, and then another, and finally got to Bhuj, where our ride commenced.
Hero Mavrick 440 Review: Design and Styling - A Modern-Classic Roadster
The Hero Mavrick 440 draws its styling from classic roadsters with a low-slung profile, muscular fuel tank, and exposed engine. The Mavrick 440 has a good balance between aggression and grace, with a slightly longer wheelbase and a bit of an aggressive riding position.
Along with this, the Mavrick has an in-your-face look with the wide stance, chunky wheels, and the roadster-esque exhaust. Here's something else, the Mavrick's body is mostly metal - so no more rattling or cheap feel. It definitley looks and feels like a premium motorcycle.

So now, starting of with the front-end of the Mavrick 440; without delving into the details just yet, it has a very striking look, with a touch of elegance and strenght. Into the details now. It features a round headlight, wiht an 'H' pattern DRL in the centre, splitting the light into two. The front headlamp dominates the front fascia, giving the bike a retro charm.
We also get a 43mm telescopic fork in the front, but more on that later. If you decide to opt for the front windshield, you'll probably miss it if you don't look hard enough. It's extremely small, and mainly provides an aesthetic touch, rather than being of any use.

As we move along the bike, the first thing that grabs our gaze is the muscular and large fuel tank. The creases throughout the tank and the design makes it difficult to not be attracted to. On either side of the tank, we find a 3D "MAVRICK" badging, but mind you, that's only in the top variant. Beyond that, we have the Mavrick 440 badging located in the centre of the tank, below the fuel cap. On top of the fuel cap, we have a USB Charging port.
The handlebars on the Mavrick 440 make us feel that we're the Kings of the Road. It's made to be a little longer than what we're used to, giving us that commanding position on the motorcycle. Now, while on the road, no one will come in your way.

The authoritative vibe that the seating position gives is something I haven't come across in an entry level motorcycle in the mid-segment. The circular mirrors brings us back to the whole retro-classic look, but also providing an ample amount of vision for what's behind us.
For the mechanical lovers, the Hero Mavrick 440 comes with an exposed engine, showcasing the work that Hero has done on this 440cc powertrain. Also, on the engine casing, we find the Hero logo, in a nice contrast to the blacked out engine.

Coming to the tail section of the Hero Mavrick, it features a tough and strong grab rail and the brake light is in the shape of an 'H', again depicting that it's a Hero motorcycle. We also get the same traditional round indicators that we get in the front.
Specs & Dimensions
The Hero Mavrick 440 is powered by a 440cc oil/air-cooled engine, delivering a respectable 26bhp and 37Nm of torque. The front suspension features 43mm telescopic forks, while the rear boasts a 7-step adjustable twin shock setup.

With a comfortable seat height of 803mm and a generous ground clearance of 175mm, the Mavrick maintains a rider-friendly stature. The wheelbase measures 1388mm, contributing to stability, and the overall weight stands at 191kg.
Riding Impressions
The ride from Bhuj to the Tent City, spanning approximately 100km, provided valuable insights into the Hero Mavrick 440's performance and comfort.
The motorcycle presents itself as an easy ride, requiring minimal adaptation time. The tremendous seat comfort, complemented by an accommodating rider's triangle, adds to the overall riding experience. The slightly aggressive yet not overly laid-back posture, coupled with wide handlebars, gives riders a commanding position on the road.

The soft suspension setup may, however, be a double-edged sword. While it offers a plush ride on most terrains, it tends to make the bike feel jumpy on minor undulations and may pose a challenge during hard cornering, causing the footpegs to scrape the ground prematurely.
In off-road scenarios, the Mavrick 440 showcases stability and bump absorption, making it a reliable companion for varied riding conditions.
When it comes to engine performance, the 440cc powertrain exhibits a slighgtly lazy demeanor, particularly noticeable post 4000rpm. Despite Hero's claim of early torque delivery, riders might find the acceleration lacking in the higher rev range.

The braking system's ABS calibration on the front provides a balanced and non-intrusive feel, but the rear brakes leave room for improvement, occasionally feeling weak. Engine braking, however, compensates well for deceleration.
While the instrument cluster offers essential information, the unclear RPM meter can be a drawback, making it challenging for riders to precisely gauge their revs. Moreover, the aggressive nature of the rev limiter might catch riders off guard if not familiar with its placement.

Final Verdict
The Hero Mavrick 440 impresses with its comfort and commanding road presence, but the soft suspension and engine characteristics may not cater to riders seeking a more dynamic performance.
Fine-tuning of the braking system and improved instrument clarity could enhance the overall riding experience. But, all-in-all, it is a motorycle for those who enjoy long rides and the occassional messing around!
