Eeve Xeniaa Long-Term Review (First Report): Initial Impressions On The Eco-Friendly City Commuter
The electric vehicle segment in India is growing at a rapid pace. Over the past couple of years, a number of new manufacturers have come up in the EV segment. One among them is Eeve India — an electric two-wheeler manufacturer in Eastern India, founded in 2018. Since their establishment, the company has already introduced four electric scooters in the country, with its flagship model being the Xeniaa.
The Eeve Xeniaa electric scooter is the brand's first model and has been with us as a long-termer for a couple of weeks now. The e-scooter even though a flagship is part of the low-speed category, allowing it to be ridden without the need for any registration plate.
Packed with a small electric motor, the Eeve Xeniaa can be easily classified as an eco-friendly commuter scooter in the market. While the scooter has been with us for a couple of weeks now and given the current circumstances, we haven't been able to ride it as much as we would have liked. So, here's what we have discovered about the Xeniaa so far!
Design & Style
The Eeve Xeniaa electric scooter is definitely a head-turner on the streets. We've had many people enquiring and admiring the electric scooter at red signals. The scooter comes with a rather bold design, with many cuts, creases and sharp lines all over.
Starting with the front, the electric scooter features a rather long dual headlamp setup with LED units. These headlamp units come integrated with the LED DRLs and cover almost the entirety of the front apron. Eeve has also offered additional LED DRLs on the top, adding to its bold design and styling.
The side and rear profile continue to carry forward the sharp lines and creases. The white paint scheme on our test vehicle offered a good contrast with the black elements all around. The side profile features a number of stickers, reminding us of the ‘Xeniaa' name of the electric scooter. There is also the large grab handle at the back finished in black for the rear pillion.
The rear profile itself is mainly characterised by the large taillights, which are flanked on either side by the turn signal indicators. The electric scooter also comes with a reflector positioned below the taillights as well.
Ride Comfort & Practicality
The Eeve Xeniaa does come with a comfortable riding position. The seats on the electric scooter are large and offer good amount of cushioning for both the rider and pillion. The battery pack on the electric scooter is situated in the boot, which allows it to have a conventionally low footboard which further improves the riding ergonomics.
However, with the large battery pack positioned under the seat, there is little to no space left in the boot to store anything. The only other place where the rider can keep items is on the footboard.
Although phone, wallet and other such smaller items can be placed in the storage space given behind the front apron. Eeve has also offered the Xeniaa with a USB port to charge your smartphones on-the-go.
The ride quality of the electric scooter is further improved by the suspension setup on the Eeve Xeniaa. The electric scooter uses telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. The suspension has been set up nicely and is neither too soft nor firm, allowing it to soak up most of the uneven tarmac with ease.
What is surprising, however, is the braking aspect of the Xeniaa. The company is offering disc brakes at both ends for a scooter whose top speed is just 25km/h.
This means that we can't complain about the brakes as they do a commendable job, bringing the scooter to a stop, almost instantly. The front disc is sharp and offers excellent bite, while the rear brakes are a bit progressive and do help slow down the scooter comfortably.
Features & Equipment
The Eeve Xeniaa electric scooter is offered with a number of features and equipment, being the brand's flagship model. Apart from the already mentioned LED headlamps, LED DRLs and the USB charging port, the electric scooter also features a fully digital instrument cluster.
This instrument cluster showcases all the basic information, such as speed, battery charge, odometer and the trip meter. There are also three modes on offer, as per the indication on the digital display. However, as of now, we couldn't find any difference or change in its performance or power delivery while shifting through the modes.
The electric scooter also comes with a 'park' mode, which is more of a safety feature. The switches for various functions on the electric scooter have been positioned well and can be easily accessed by the rider, without having to look down and get distracted.
The Eeve Xeniaa also comes with other features including stylish alloy wheels, a hub-mounted electric motor, keyless entry and a removable battery pack. The 60V 20Ah lithium-ion battery can be removed from the scooter and charged separately.
Although, Eeve has also given the option of charging it directly as well, via a charging port, just below the front seat. The battery takes up roughly 4 hours to charge completely when connected to a standard plug point at home or office.
The electric scooter offers a total range of roughly 65km on a single charge, this claim is currently being put to the test and we will have a more detailed report of it coming soon.
Initial Impressions
The scooter is still undergoing comprehensive testing, which means our final report will be something to look forward to in the not-so-distant future. However, our first impressions of spending time with the electric scooter have looked extremely positive. The electric scooter is lightweight, is packed with features, looks stylish and offers excellent ride comfort, making it a good eco-friendly city commuter.
Although stay-tuned for our final report, where we will let you know how it performs, handles range anxiety, how cost-effective it is to live with and its availability.
