The electric scooter segment in India is growing rapidly with new eco-friendly scooters being launched frequently. EeVe is one of the many electric vehicle startups in the Indian market with its focus firmly set on the e-scooter segment.
The brand has already launched a few electric scooters in the Indian market and in December 2020, the EeVe Atreo was launched. Does the EeVe Atreo have what it takes to compete in the segment? What is it like to ride? Does it induce range anxiety? We set out to find out for ourselves.
We got our hands on the EeVe Atreo and tested it thoroughly, and yes we did run out of juice in the battery. Read our EeVe Atreo review to find out more.
Design & Styling
This is where the EeVe Atreo scores the highest. It is obvious that EeVe was targeting the younger crowd with this design. It boasts sharp lines and angular styling all over. The same edgy design is seen up front too.
Up front is an LED headlamp with LED DRLs. The headlamp features individual LED pods for the high and low beams respectively. The twin headlamp setup takes up most of the space on the apron up front.
Placed higher up in the apron is a faux air intake that makes the scooter look sporty. There is the ‘EeVe' badging right above it, and the turn signal indicators are placed in the handlebar cowling.
When looked at from the side profile, the dual-tone alloy wheels draw one's attention immediately. The floorboard is placed up high and the scooter also boasts of sporty graphics on the body.
Towards the rear-end at the bottom is a dual-tone swingarm cover on both sides of the scooter. This isn't functional but is purely aesthetic and thereby does its job pretty well. It covers the swingarm and a bit of the suspension as well as the electric motor.
The scooter also features a large grab rail with a plastic dual-tone element that makes it look great. At the rear is a large tail lamp with the turn signal indicators flanking the central tail lamp. The registration number plate holder is mounted on the mudguard. Since the scooter doesn't need to be registered, instead of a registration number, you only get a plate that says ‘EeVe.'
The EeVe Atreo is available in two dual-tone colour options - Red & Black and Blue & Black.
Features & Specifications
The EeVe Atreo is a simple and practical scooter. The list of features does not look too big, but it is a decent number of features for this segment and price bracket. Some of the features of the EeVe Atreo are:

IOT-based features like Geo-Fencing & Geo-Tagging can be factory-enabled and are features that are very useful for commercial buyers, and fleet operators. Using the Keyless Entry feature is a simple task. Usage of the remote and its functions takes some getting used to, but once you are used to it, it is a breeze.
The EeVe Atreo features a circular instrument cluster. The dial is small and displays some basic information. It displays the speed, current riding mode, battery voltage, motor speed and number of kilometres ridden since the scooter was last charged.
Powertrain, Performance & Handling
The EeVe Atreo is powered by a 250 Watt hub motor which gets its juice from a 27Ah 72V lead-acid battery. Charging the battery from 0-100% takes between 7-8 hours. EeVe claims the scooter has a range of between 75 and 85 kilometres.
What's the EeVe Atreo like to ride? Let's talk about the performance figures first. It certainly isn't the best in terms of outright performance. The maximum top speed we could achieve on a flat surface was 45km/h.
On some slopes, we did manage to take it up to 49km/h, but the opposite effect was felt on inclines where the electric scooter refused to cross the 41km/h mark. Acceleration is decent too, with the 0-40km/h done in just about 8 seconds.
As mentioned earlier, the EeVe Atreo features three riding modes, simply named 1, 2 & 3. The acceleration remains the same in all the modes, with the only difference being the top speed.
In Mode 1, the EeVe Atreo touches 33km/h quite easily, and eventually makes it to 35km/h. In Mode 2, it goes on to 40km/h and Mode 3 takes it to 45km/h. The throttle response too remains the same in all the ride modes.
The biggest concern for EV owners and buyers these days is range, and the Atreo gave us a decent number - 55 kilometres. This falls quite short of the number quoted by the company. To be fair though, we rode almost all of the 55 kilometres at full throttle in Mode 3.
Also, the range depends on how many inclines the scooter is ridden on and the gradient of it. We ran out of charge while testing the scooter. Strangely enough, the instrument cluster still showed two units of battery power left while the motor lost drive from the battery.
The battery pack is placed under the floorboard. This helps the scooter get a low centre of gravity and it also raises the footboard quite a bit. As a result, the riding position is a little awkward.
The rider's knees are positioned higher than the hips. We found our knees fouling with the handlebar while maneuvering the scooter through tight spaces and while trying to take a U-turn. For taller riders, this is certainly an area of concern.
After a day of riding the EeVe Atreo around, we did end up wishing for a more comfortable seating position. Apart from this, riding the EeVe Atreo is quite a pleasant experience. The seat itself is comfortable and provides just the right amount of cushioning.
Price, Competition & Warranty
The EeVe Atreo is priced at Rs 64,900. This places it above the bare-basic scooters, but under the premium electric scooters currently on sale in the Indian market.
The Atreo competes with the likes of the Okinawa R30, Okinawa Lite, Hero Electric Optima LX, Pure EV ETrance+, Ampere Reo+, etc.
EeVe sells the Atreo with a warranty of 2 Years or 20,000 kilometres. To be eligible for all warranty benefits, the electric scooter will have to be serviced at the scheduled intervals.
The Indian electric scooter space is divided into multiple segments. At the very top are the premium high-performance electric scooters that cost well over Rs 1 lakh. At the bottom end are a few bare-basic electric scooters that are extremely slow and pathetic to ride.
The EeVe Atreo slots right in between. Neither is it a bare basics scooter, nor is it a premium offering. At Rs 64,900, it is among the more expensive low-speed electric scooters but it is also among the best-looking electric scooters in the segment.
On the whole, the EeVe Atreo gives its users an overall pleasant experience.
