Bounce Infinity E1 Review — The Electric Scooter For The Masses
Due to the steep increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, the electric vehicle space is booming in the Indian market. Several EV manufacturers have entered the market and some of them have also marked their place amongst the best in the market.
Bounce is a Bangalore-based start-up that used to rent out high-end luxury motorcycles to certain customers and commuter scooters including electric scooters, to the rest. The brand was the first to do this without taking any deposit from the customers. After being in the market for a long and successful time, the company decided to launch its own electric scooter.
Enter the Bounce Infinity E1. In terms of pricing, this scooter is currently available in only one variant and is priced at Rs 60,000 ex-showroom. It was launched earlier this year and Bounce invited us to test ride the brand-new Infinity E1. What's it like to ride? Let's find out.
Bounce Infinity E1 Design & Style
Let us talk about the design first. The infinity E1 has a very unique design and has a retro styling. Starting at the front, it features a circular headlamp with LED DRLs that also take a circular shape. Two projector units handle the high and low beams. The scooter also gets a unique handlebar and the headlamp cluster sits right on top of the handlebars.
The Bounce E1 features minimalist body lines and the same is seen on the side panels. Moving to the rear-end, the electric scooter gets LED taillights and the turn signals indicators are also LED units.
Bounce Infinity E1 Features
The Bounce Infinity E1 features a fully digital instrument cluster that gives out a fair amount of information about the scooter. It displays the trip meters, battery level, range, speed, time, etc. It does feature Bluetooth connectivity that allows it to display incoming calls while you are on the go.
The dial is big and easy to read, even on a bright sunny day and at night you get a white backlight for even better readouts. You also get good under-seat storage, but a full-size helmet will not fit in it. The swappable battery is also placed under the seat. Apart from that, it also gets a type-A USB charging socket.
Bounce Infinity E1 Motor Performance, Range & Riding Impressions
First, let us talk about the motor. The Infinity E1 is powered by a 2kWh battery pack that sends juice to a 2.2kW electric motor. Now the power figures are not that great, but the scooter has 85Nm of peak torque, and that in electric scooter terms is just brilliant.
The Infinity E1 also gets multiple ride modes — Power, Eco, and Drag. The scooter can do 35km/h in the Eco mode and 65km/h in the power mode. It is at this point that we should mention, 65km/h is the rated top speed of the Bounce Infinity E1.
Drag mode is a very helpful riding mode and comes in handy when you have a puncture. So on activating the Drag mode you can walk with the scooter at 3km/h without dragging it. As far as the charging is concerned, the scooter can be charged by the regular charger in about 5 hours.
Charge it with a fast charger though, and the charging times will drop to between 100 and 120 minutes. Once charged completely, the scooter will give you a real-world range of around 65kms and 50kms in the Eco and power mode respectively.
Bounce has also set up battery swapping stations in Bangalore and is working on installing such stations across the country. To use the swapping facilities, customers have to purchase a monthly subscription of around Rs 850. Users can just ride to a nearby swapping facility, remove the consumed old battery from the scooter and replace it with a fully-charged unit and then ride off.
This entire process will take less than a minute and will cost you only Rs 35 for a single battery swap. However, there are chances that the company might add a secondary battery under the footboard for a longer range.
The seat of the Infinity E1 is broad and comfortable. However, towards the front of the seat, the seat is slightly broader than it would usually be. As a result, the rider has to spread their legs a little wide and sit, which is slightly uncomfortable, even more so for shorter riders.
When it comes to the ride quality, things definitely could have been better. Due to the stiff suspension setup, the scooter does not feel very comfortable to ride. Even small undulations on the roads can be felt and we did feel the scooter becoming unstable once you hit a pothole at speed.
The handlebar is placed very close to the rider and as a result, it will hit your knees whenever you turn the handlebar fully to the right or left. This is especially true if you are a tall rider. Acceleration is gradual and smooth, and it reached the claimed top speed with ease.
Yet another aspect worth mentioning is, the scooters we rode were all pre-production models. This means, there are some niggles. For example, the side stand scrapes the road surface if you take a left-hand turn at speed. The brand has mentioned that this stand would be replaced by a new design. Other improvements include fixing the panel gaps and the scooter will also get a software update.
Verdict
In an age where electric scooters are all set to dominate the market, it is good to have a bit of a variety going about. The Bounce Infinity E1 adds to the variety of scooters that are already available in the market and are honestly leaving us consumers spoilt for choice. There are a few niggles, but those will be taken care of by the brand.
On the other hand, the scooter gets all the basics right. It has a decent amount of range and performance. Most importantly, the battery swapping stations set up by Bounce act as a perfect companion to the scooter, improving usability.
