Toyota has revealed the GR HV Sports concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The new GR HV Sports concept is part of Toyota's new GR lineup which is named after Gazoo Racing, the company's racing team.

Gazoo Racing, Toyota's in-house racing team runs the TSO50 hybrid LMP1 racing car in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the new GR HV concept uses a hybrid-electric powertrain.
The electric portion of the powertrain is similar to the one found on the LMP1 car, but details about the combustion engine have not been revealed.

The hybrid powertrain of the Toyota GR HV concept is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels.
The GR HV's concept's manual gearbox mode is activated by pressing a button placed under the gear knob cover. In manual mode, drivers change gear by moving the gear lever through an H-pattern gate.

The TSO50 LMP1 car also is the inspiration for the GR HV's front end, with the vertical headlights flanking a rather pointy front end which also features two large air intakes and a splitter.

The Toyota GR HV which is based on the current GT 86 sports car also features a Targa top, something we haven't seen on a Toyota for a long time, with the last car to feature the roof design being the iconic Supra.

The rear end is dominated by the large single exhaust. Also present at the rear are vertically stacked tail lights and a small spoiler.

DriveSpark Thinks!
The Toyota GR HV Concept is a look at Toyota's hybrid ambitions for its sports car lineup and the increasing influence of its in-house Gazoo racing brand. With the new Supra set to arrive in 2019, Toyota seems to be the mainstream that looks sets to push the performance segment forward in the near future. Let's just hope it does better than the TSO50 at Le Mans.
