2017 Tokyo Motor Show: New Honda Gold Wing Revealed
Honda has revealed the all-new Gold Wing at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.
Japanese bike manufacturer Honda has revealed the 2018 Gold Wing super cruiser at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The new Honda Gold Wing is more compact than the previous model while weighing about 40kg less.
With the rebooted Gold Wing, Honda has created the most high-tech motorcycle in creation which comes equipped with Apple CarPlay. The bike features a 7-inch LCD screen in the dashboard which offers CarPlay support.

Honda will offer two versions of the tourer, a standard Gold Wing and a more tech and feature-rich Gold Wing Tour. The Honda Gold Wing Tour is the flagship version and gets a trunk that doubles up as backrest and armrests for the pillion and a taller windscreen among several other changes.

The standard Honda Gold Wing replaces the F6 Bagger and doesn't get the rear trunk and receives a smaller windscreen compared to the Tour. The standard version also misses out on electronic suspension adjustment and few other features.

Both the versions are powered by Honda's horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that displaces 1,833cc which can be paired to either a traditional 6-speed manual gearbox or Honda's new DCT gearbox, which eliminates the need for a clutch lever or shift lever. The power is transferred to the rear wheel through a shaft drive on the current model.

The new Honda Gold Wing features four ride modes: Tour, Sport, Eco, and Rain. All the models come equipped with cruise control, keyless ignition and a hill start assist function.

To improve the efficiency of the engine, Honda has employed four valves per cylinder instead of two along with a Unicam head arrangement. The engine is placed further towards the front end for better weight balancing and to improve the centre of gravity of the tourer.
Honda says the lower weight and revised placement of the engine are hugely responsible for making the new Gold Wing a better handler.

Another critical update to the new Honda Gold Wing is the double wishbone suspension at the front that Honda claims to reduce the rider's effort for steering. Showa performs the braking duties at both ends, and the Tour also gets an electronic adjustment.

The new Gold Wing is also equipped with a complete electronic suite including traction control, while ABS and linking braking are standard.

DriveSpark Thinks!
The new Honda Gold Wing is lighter, meaner and more potent over its predecessor. And with the revised engine placement and power output, the new Gold Wing is expected to be agile and is easy to ride and handle.
