Japanese carmaker Honda has revealed the Sports EV concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The Sports EV is based on the same electric platform as the Urban EV concept revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show which will enter production in 2019 before going on sale in 2020.

Honda has not revealed any details about the performance figures of the Sports EV concept, though the company does state that the new concept combines EV performance and Artificial Intelligence.

In terms of design, thankfully for sports car fans, Honda has retained long bonnet, cab backwards proportions of a front-engined, sports car. The main design elements are taken from the Urban EV including the round headlights, blacked out grille with the illuminated badge and square taillights are a retro throwback.

The old-school design elements combine well with modern cues including the crouched stance and large wheels and the glass roof to give the Sports EV a rather distinct look.

DriveSpark Thinks!
With Honda committed to having an electrified version of every model in its range and the Urban EV confirmed for production, our hopes are high for the Sports EV concept to follow its hatchback sibling into the market.
