2017 New York Auto Show: Hyundai Sonata Showcased

Korean car maker Hyundai has showcased the updated Sonata at the 2017 New York Auto Show. Hyundai also confirmed the specs of the car.

The Hyundai Sonata will go on sale this year in the global market. The currently showcased car is an updated version of the Sonata which was revealed at the 2014 New York Auto Show.

The Sonata has been criticised for its dull looks. But now Hyundai has extensively changed the styling. The car also gets mechanical and safety upgrades to keep up with the competitors.

The Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0T variant features a cascading grille with mesh pattern and LED headlights. To distinguish from the standard model, the Sport 2.0T features chrome moulding on side body, door handles and rear lamp moulding.

The interior of the new Sonata features 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other updates include a revised steering wheel design and a flat-bottom steering wheel on the Sport 2.0T.

The Sonata Sport 2.0 draws power from a 2-litre inline, four-cylinder engine churning out 245bhp and 352Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The models equipped with this engine also gets 18-inch alloy wheels and Michelin tyres.

The designers at Hyundai have also tweaked the chassis of the Sonata to improve ride and handling. The changes include thicker suspension components, recalibrated steering and new bushing.

The safety features on the new Sonata include seven airbags, lane departure warning; lane keep assist, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert.
