2016 EICMA Motorcycle Show: BMW R nineT Urban G/S Revealed
BMW Motorrad has unveiled the latest addition to its R nineT lineup at EICMA 2016.
BMW Motorrad has unveiled the R nineT Urban G/S at the 2016 EICMA Motorcycle Show in the city of Milan in Italy.
The latest addition to the R nineT series comes just a few weeks after the R nineT Pure and the R nineT Racer were unveiled at Intermot 2016 in Cologne, Germany.
The new BMW R nineT Urban G/S uses a Boxer twin engine that is compatible with Euro 4 emission norms.
The engine has a bore of 101 mm, stroke of 73 mm and a displacement of 1,170 cc and pushes out 108.4bhp @ 7,750rpm and 116Nm of torque @6,000rpm.
The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox that sends the power to the rear wheel.
The Urban G/S will sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds and will keep on accelerating till it maxxes out at 200km/h.
The new R nineT Urban G/S is a homage to the original R80G/S from 1980 and is a stripped down adventure motorcycle.
This is quite evident in the fact that the front mudguard looks almost stuck to the cover for the round headlamp. Immediately underneath the mudguard sit the protective protective fork gaiters.
The fuel tank features graphics painted in two shades of blue, the seat is done up in red while the frame of the bike is painted black.
Also present are knobby tyres which are set on the spoked wheels, though conventional alloys and road tyres are fitted onto the bike as standard. Another indication to the adventure style of the new motorcycle is the upwards pointing exhaust.
The new Urban G/S features 43mm telescopic front forks up front while at the rear the suspension duties are handled by a monoshock.
Up front there are twin 320 mm front disc brakes with four-piston calipers while at the rear the stopping duties are handled by a single 265 mm disc with a floating caliper and two pistons.
The front wheel is a 19-inch unit which is shod with a 120/70 ZR19 road tyre while the rear end of the new bike has a 17-inch wheel shod with 170/60 ZR 17 road tyre.
