2017 Geneva Motor Show: Rolls-Royce Ghost Elegance Shows Why Diamonds Are Forever

Rolls-Royce customers are typically filthy rich - but one collector has gone above and beyond, and the result will go on display at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The Ghost Elegance is an extended-wheelbase limousine coated in a special paint that's made from real diamonds.

The unique paint is called Diamond Stardust and creates what Rolls calls "the most luxurious and lustrous exterior ever seen on a motor car." The paint uses a thousand crushed diamonds to give the Ghost a finish unsurpassed in its glamor and luster.

Rolls-Royce says that their specialists spent two months perfecting the finish, examining the diamonds under microscopes to study how the stones interact with light.

The team then created a fine diamond powder that they mixed into the clear paint, over which was applied an extra layer of lacquer to ensure a smooth finish. Its application took two days extra over, and above the time Rolls-Royce usually spends painting its cars.

The unique two-tone treatment is further embellished by dual hand-painted coach lines in red and black, special 21-inch wheels, and an uplit Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament.

Inside, the car features black leather up front and grey leather in the back, with matching the red trim, Tudor Oak veneer, color-coordinated tartan-lined pockets, and a unique clock design in the dashboard.
