2017 Geneva Motor Show: Mercedes-Benz Reveals X-Class Pickup Concept
The Mercedes-Benz X-Class interior guarantees to be full of Mercedes-Benz design details, adopting parts from the C-Class and V-Class.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed its first pickup, the X-Class Concept, at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, that's due to go on sale toward the end of the year.

The German automaker states the new pickup will be a mash-up of a sturdy, functional, truck with off-road capability coupled with Mercedes luxury.

The final design guarantees to blend elements from two similar design concepts, one introduced as the "powerful adventurer" and the other as a "stylish explorer".

The "Adventurer" version is clad in a sporty yellow-green shade with knobby tyres and lifted suspensions, eliciting a traditional pickup with a focus on off-road capabilities and rugged styling.

As for the "Explorer" edition, it seems to share a closer relationship with Mercedes-Benz' existing range. Designers opted for a classy white metallic paint and 22-inch chrome wheels, giving the pickup a more premium appearance.

The production model will likely tone down the styling a bit more, especially in the rear end. Unique styling factors will prevail, although its overall shape is unlikely to stray far from its Nissan Navara platform.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that a V6 diesel engine will power the top-of-the-line variant, mated with the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive (AWD), although additional powertrain specifications remain unclear.

According to Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dr Dieter Zetsche, "Our future X-Class will be a pickup that knows no compromise. Ladder-type frame, high-torque six-cylinder engine, and permanent all-wheel drive are compulsory for us."

He further added, "As an added value we bring safety, comfort, agility, and expressive design - in other words, everything that distinguishes vehicles bearing the Mercedes star. We will thus appeal to new customers who have not considered owning a pickup before."
