2017 Detroit Auto Show: Mercedes-Benz GLA Facelift Revealed

The mid-life changes to the GLA SUV include a brand new petrol engine which will sit under the hood of the new GLA 220 variant which will sit between the GLA 200 and 250 models.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 181bhp and 300Nm of torque and is available exclusively with Merc's 4Matic four-wheel drive system.

The rest of the regular GLA petrol engine line remains the same with both the GLA 200 and 250 retaining the same power and torque figures. The diesel lineup remains unchanged as well.

The range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 variant also remains unchanged with 376bhp and 475Nm of torque which is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 4.4 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 250km/h.

Design changes include a revised front bumper, new round fog lamps, optional LED headlamps which replace the previous bi-xenon units and a newly designed grille.

The facelifted GLA sits on a new set of alloy wheels, and Mercedes has also raised the ride height of the car by 30mm to give it a more SUV-ish stance.

At the rear, the LED taillights feature tinted borders. Also new is the revised rear bumper which looks more rugged than before.

Inside, the cabin features an 8-inch infotainment system along with a revised instrument cluster dials and needles behind the steering wheel. The electric seat controls and centre console stowage compartment surround feature a chrome finish.

The Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 gets a few specific design upgrades of its own including revised front and rear spoilers for better aero, a revised AMG grille and new two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels.

Also new is a limited run range-topping Yellow Night Edition trim, which brings a two-tone black and yellow exterior look, yellow interior highlights and a host of extra kit thrown in as standard.

The 2017 Mercedes GLA is now on sale in Europe with prices starting at€28,940 (Rs 20.77 lakh) for the base GLA 180 variant.
