Maruti Looks To Ignite Compact Crossover Segment With Ignis Concept
Maruti Suzuki is showcasing the Ignis Concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Ignis was first unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Show.
Engine & Gearbox Details
The Ignis will be available with both petrol and diesel engines from the Swift hatchback when it goes on sale later this year.
The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre powerplant that pumps out 83bhp@6000rpm and 115Nm of torque@4,000rpm. Claimed Mileage figure is 20.4km/l.
The 1.3-litre diesel engine is borrowed from Fiat and produces 74bhp@4,000rpm and 190Nm of torque@2,000rpm. Claimed Mileage figure is 25.2km/l.

Design
Design wise, the Ignis is based on the Suzuki's iM-4 concept model seen at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show.
Its boxy SUV-like design up front may look like any other small SUV, however, at the back, it is quite different, with its rear window perched at a sharp angle to the rest of the boot lid.
Availability And Rivals
The Ignis is expected to hit Maruti's NEXA showrooms during the Dusshera-Diwali festival period and is expected to priced between Rs. 4–6 lakhs.
The Ignis will be going up against the Mahindra KUV100 and the Grand i10 from Hyundai.
