Honda NAVI Could Be A Crossover Two Wheeler: Will Be Unveiled At Auto Expo
Honda Motorcycles and Scooter division will unveil a crossover at the Auto Expo 2016, targeting the new generation segment. The Indian market is in the fever of the four wheeler crossover, which has seen every automobile manufacturer launching four wheelers in this segment. Honda wants to cash in and take the lead in the two wheeler segment.
The company is looking to combine the ease of ride of the scooter and the agility of a motorcycle which will be developed locally. The crossover two wheeler might be offered to the customer in April or May this year. This will be powered by the 110cc Activa engine with the variomatic transmission.
Honda's newly formed R&D Centre has been working on the new segments first two wheeler and will be targeting the youth to propel its demand. The Activa was launched back in 2000 and Honda has a good knowledge of the needs of the riders in this segment, this will be taken into account while developing the new two wheeler.
Bajaj M80 and the Hero Honda Street were previously launched targeting this segment and it didn't perform very well in terms of sales. While it is an attempt to bridge the gap between a scooter and a bike, time will tell if this crossover will be accepted by the Indian customer.
The company has not revealed any details of the crossover, however, they are betting big and has started to campaign from the start of this year. Pricing has to be correct, as the Indian customer's quench for less money more features are never ending.
