Mahindra Unveils World's First Hydrogen Auto
Mahindra and Mahindra has proved yet again that it is focussed on delivering an entire package of automobile solutions by unveiling the world's first hydrogen powered three wheeler. The Mahindra HyAlpha was unveiled by Mahindra & Mahindra president (automotive) Pawan Goenka.
He said the HyAlpha has been developed under the project name 'DelHy 3w'. The HyAlpha is still in its experimental stage and 15 models will ply the streets of the Pragati Maidan, the venue of the 11th Indian Auto Expo. A special hydrogen refueling station has been set up at the ground specially for these vehicles.

The HyAlfa has been developed under a joint project by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation ( UNIDO) International Centre for Hydrogen Energy Technologies ( ICHET), Mahindra & Mahindra and IIT-Delhi, with support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Mr Goenka said the hydrogen powered autos are the best possible alternatives to carbon emitting light commercial vehicles as they do not have any form of emissions. However hydrogen powered vehicles are yet to prove themselves to be economically viable with a kg of hydrogen costing Rs.250.
The cost of a hydrogen powered three wheeler could be about Rs.25,000 to Rs.25,000 more than a similar CNG powered vehicle. A CNG three wheeler costs about Rs.2 lakhs.
