Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG Racing Series To Premiere At Frankfurt
Mercedes-Benz has in the past come out with racing spec versions of its stock cars. While some of these participate in races as official Mercedes team racers, most others are used by private customer teams across the world in the countless racing event across the world.
The customer motorsport programme is just as important for any automaker as the road car market. The CLA45 AMG Racing Series caters to that category. The first images of the car were released on Facebook, but details will only be revealed upon launch in Frankfurt. Check out the images and the few things that we do know about the car.

The engine is a modified version of the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder unit, mated to dual clutch 7 speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT7 semi-automatic transmission.

While in the regular CLA45 AMG the 2.0-liter turbocharged unit generates 355 HP and 450 Nm of torque, the figures of the Racing Series engine have not been revealed.

This is because the four cylinder engine can be tuned or detuned depending on the which four cylinder category race it will be participating in.

"The technical specifications will vary according to the race rules and race series. The engine output and power transmission are variable," Mercedes said in a statement.

In addition, the transmission settings are variable, letting the teams use it either as a front wheel or an all wheel drive racer as per the event requirements.

The CLA45 AMG Racing Series comes with a full fledged racing package that includes, racing-spec aero kit, roll cage, carbon-fiber body panels, recaro racing seats, stripped-out interior with race spec safety equipments.

AMG chief, Ola Källenius said: "The tremendous success of the SLS AMG GT3, which is now being raced by customer teams across five different continents, makes us highly confident."
