KTM RC390 At EICMA: Specifications, Features, Details
It is now official. KTM at last took the covers off of the 2014 RC390 Supersport motorcycle at the EICMA 2013 show in Milan, Italy. The existence of the RC390 was confirmed several months before when KTM revealed the ADAC Junior Cup race spec motorcycle.
For those who might have missed the earlier stories relating to the 2014 KTM RC390, it is the fully faired supersport variant of the 390 Duke naked bike. Below are official images and details about the latest heartthrob from the Austrian company.
More exciting new from EICMA 2013

2014 KTM RC390 shares the engine components with the 390 Duke. The supersport generates 43 HP from its 373cc powerplant. Torque figure has not been made known yet.

Power is controlled via the same six speed transmission from the 390 Duke, though it will have track friendly ratios.

The supersport weights 147 kg. That's the dry weight - on an empty fuel tank and minus other fluids and the rider. In comparison, the 390 Duke weights 139 kg. The added weight in the RC390 comes from the fairing.

The RC390 is purely meant for racing. While touring equipments have been made available the 10 liter fuel tank restricts its long distance touring capabilities.

Not surprisingly ABS will be a standard fitment even in countries outside Europe.

Braking is provided by radially mounted four piston caliper at the front gripping a 300mm disc, while a single piston caliper holds a 230mm disc at the rear.

According to KTM the single unit trellis frame holding the RC390 is a lot more rigid than the one used in the 390 Duke, featuring a different chassis geometry to withstand the forces exerted during track riding.

The RC390 chassis sports a steeper steering head with less trial and a shorter wheelbase for a more comfortable riding position for a racer and accommodates steeper lean angles.

Suspension wise both the forks and the rear monoshock come fro WP. The front USD forks have the same thickness as the one found in the 1190 RC8 R superbike.

Further proof of the RC390's racing oriented character are 110/70ZR17 & 150/60ZR17 size tyres.

The 2014 KTM RC390 will be hit European roads in early 2014 for a starting price of €6,000 or about INR 5 lakhs.

News about the launch of the RC390 in India should be made public at the 2014 Auto Expo in mid-Feb. (The image is that of a fully equipped non-road legal, racing spec variant)
