Jaguar F-Type Coupe Headed For Frankfurt?
The usual path followed by automakers while developing new sports vehicles is this. First comes the coupe. This sets up camp, advertising its capabilities to the world. Once the world warms up to the new model and takes a liking to it, the manufacturer chops off the top and a either a convertible or a roadster follows.
A fixed top always offers better performance due to technical reasons and the roofless version, while slightly less capable in term of performance, makes up for it with its looks. Very rarely do automakers ever steer from this unwritten norm and take the opp path. Porsche, for example, did this with the Boxster convertible. The highly desirable Cayman, a fixed top, was its offspring. Jaguar is soon expected to repeat it with the F-Type, arguably the most beautiful convertible ever.

The F-Type convertible was launched this year and landed in India only a few weeks back. The convertible comes in three variants - a 340 HP 3.0 liter V6, a 380 HP supercharged V6 and a 490 HP supercharged 5.0 liter V8. The top of the line F-Type V8 is powerful enough to go from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds and can reach 300 km/h. Only the latter two are on offer in India.
The world has previewed a coupe version of the Jaguar F-Type in the C-X16 coupe concept, which though has all the characteristics to qualify as the fixed top F-Type, has not been officially confirmed as such by Jaguar. But rumor has it that Jaguar is ready with a near production ready model which it will preview at the Frankfurt Auto Show on September 10th.

According to a report on an Australian blog, drive.com.au, Jaguar will go ahead with previewing the F-Type Coupe in Frankfurt, followed by a preview of a completely ready one at the Tokyo Motor Show in November, before finally launching it in 2014.
An F-Type coupe, besides being beautiful, will be slightly more powerful than the convertible since it will weight less. In theory it should also offer higher performance and better on-track performance. We cannot wait.
