Ford Escort Returns At 2013 Shanghai Auto Show
Ford Escort, which was offered in India until early 2000, has now made a comeback. Ford has unveiled the Escort compact sedan concept at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, with a plan to launch a production version in the near future.
Hopefuls, however, will be disappointed to learn that Ford has no plans of introducing the Escort in other markets. The Escort is a dedicated compact sedan model for China, a segment which is expected to witness sales of five million units annually.

The Ford Escort Concept, though a compact sedan, is designed to be spacious, which is necessary feature for any Chinese car.

"Its roomy interior, attention to detail, and precise and refined surface language really give the concept car its harmonious aesthetics, where desirable is actually attainable." Ford says in its statement.

The Escort comes with Ford's new global design, sporting the hexagonal front grille, which is slightly more upright.

The Escort gets elongated, jeweled headlamps, which have been designed to resemble the figure ‘8', a number considered lucky by the Chinese.

"The Ford Escort Concept represents the idea that you can get a compact vehicle with a premium aesthetic without sacrificing key features like space for families or having to pay a premium price tag," said Martin Smith, executive design director, Europe and Asia Pacific.
