Caterham Motorcycles & Moto Racing Team Announced; Brutus 750 At EICMA
Caterham, the British automaker well known for its Seven sports cars and the Caterham F1 team has a booth at the EICMA show in Milan. The reason behind the carmaker's presence at the motorcycle show is to tell the world about the start of Caterham Motorcycles and the Caterham Moto Racing team.
This is not some half baked idea, but a full fledged plan and caterham has even expressed its intention to enter the Moto2 in 2014. Caterham has not revealed information about the sports bikes it will be building and racing or given names of its riders. Instead, displayed at its booth are three two-wheeled concepts which will enter production in 2014.
More Exciting News From EICMA 2013
Its the Brutus 750. This interesting looking bike debuted at last year's EICMA show as a concept. The bike is the creation of Alessandro Tartarini, former designer from Lambretta. Looks like he now has the backing of Caterham, allowing him to realise his dream.
As you can see the Brutus 750 was developed as a utility motorcycle. Turning the monster truck like motorcycle tyres is a 49 bhp, 750cc engine transmitting power via a CVT transmission which can also drive the Brutus in reverse.
The wheels measure 14 inches, wrapped in massive all-weather, all-terrain tyres. The sort which are found on utility quad bikes.
Caterham claims Brutus 750 is "surprisingly nimble to ride". And besides on and off road riding it can also run on snow after replacing the front wheels with ski and rear tyre with tracks. A conversion process that takes nearly 4 hours.
The second Caterham motorcycle concept is the retro styled electric bike, aptly named Classic E-Bike.
The V-twin ‘engine' is just a casing that houses the Classic E-Bike's batteries.
Caterham claims the Classic E-Bike has a range of 40 km to 80 km on a full charge. No further details have been made available.
The last of the three is the limited edition Carbon E-Bike. As you can see, the Carbon has a modern design, with styling cues, Caterham says, taken from Formula 1 racing cars.
All three bikes will enter production by Spring of 2014, ready to be sold across Europe, North and South Americas and Asia.
Al-Ishal Ishak, appointed as CEO of Caterham Motorcycles said, "We are realistic and honest enough to know that we're not in the business of rivaling the establishment, we're here to offer an alternative that befits the spirit of Caterham." Alessandro Tartarini will be seen carrying out the responsibilities of Chief Designer.
