2014 Jaguar XJR Unveiled At New York Auto Show
The 2014 model year big cat from Jaguar has been unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The new Jaguar XJR is a combination of power, performance, luxury and comfort, all in equal parts. A hard combination to achieve but Jaguar seems to have pulled it off with the XJR.
"The new XJR epitomizes the three pillars of technology, performance and seductive design which the Jaguar brand stands for in the twenty-first century, while delivering new levels of dynamic ability in a luxury sedan," says Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar.

Power and performance
The XJR being a performance sedan sports sportscar level powertrain. Power is delivered from a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 542 HP and 680 Nm of torque.

Power and performance
Mated to an 8 speed ZF auto transmission, the engine can take the large luxury sedan from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.4 seconds and can go on till it hits an electronic wall at 174 mph or 280 km/h. There are steering wheel mounted paddle shifters as well which allows manual control.

Electronics
Corner Recognition is a feature that detects corners and automatically keeps the appropriate gear ready to be deployed to exit the curve. The transmission even knows when the driver is performing overtaking maneuvers and provides optimum gears for the same. Start/Stop function ensures higher fuel efficiency.

Fuel economy
The XJR delivers an average mileage of 18 US mpg, which converts to 11.6 liter/100 km or 8.6 km/l

Design
The XJR is not a bulky luxury sedan fitted with a powerful engine that uses brute force to extract performance. The designers have put special emphasis on the XJR's aerodynamic capabilities. As a result the car sports several functional aerodynamic components including a front air splitter, functional hood vents, and quad tailpipes. These satisfy the combined requirements of a providing aerodynamics as well as supporting the bold look of the XJR.

Breaking
Stopping power comes from the Jaguar High Performance Braking System, featuring 15" (380mm) front and 14.8" (376mm) rear discs that are internally ventilated.

Handling
Developed in Nürburgring circuit, the high-speed Rockingham circuit in England, and the winding roads of England and Wales, the XJR offers supreme handling no matter what the driving condition or driving style is. "Jaguar Adaptive Dynamics actively controls vertical body movement, roll, and pitch rates through the use of continuously variable dampers. The system monitors driver inputs and the road conditions, adjusting damper rates in response up to 500 times a second. The driver's selection of Dynamic Mode calibrates the damping rates to the firmer end of the available range."

To advertise its luxurious yet sporty character the XJR sports ‘R' badges on front, sides and even on the inside. 20 inch lightweight forged alloy "Farallon" wheels covered in Pirelli tires further enhances the look of the XJR.

Audio system
An 825 watt, 18 speaker sound system from Meridian offers theater quality surround sound experience.

"The XJR is the sporting pinnacle of the XJ range. This car has been dynamically set-up from the outset to deliver stunning performance, while still retaining the luxury and comfort common to the entire XJ range,"
says Andrew Dobson, Chief Program Engineer, Jaguar XJR
