Green Is the Way To Go...

The recent Geneva Auto Show was the sign of things to come and it's green. Major carmakers are vying to produce more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly car. Most of the cars showcased will soon be seen on Indian roads.

Volkswagen unveiled its Polo concept with a certain 'BlueMotion' technology. This technology works to reduce fuel consumption by injecting urea into the combustion chamber occasionally. The diesel variant Polo 1.6 liter TDI will generate 90 bhp and will contribute nearly 25 kpl. The petrol variant 1.2 TSI will generate 103 bhp and contribute nearly 18 kpl. Also in the stall was a blue tec volkswagen concept car, which will include start-stop function and regenerative braking to deliver 30 kpl. This car will be on the roads in the next two years. The Polos will be imported to India much sooner.

Daimler Chrysler also unveiled its new E class, E350 that is much lighter and has improved fuel efficiency systems than the current model. The 2.3 liter diesel 205 bhp Blue TEC diesel engine; it is claimed, will deliver an impressive 18.8 kpl. Tata too was not far behind unveiling its all-electric Tata Indica EV. This car will run a whopping 200 kilometers on a single charge. If all is well we may have a greener planet after all.
