Apple’s iOS 11 To Feature ‘Do Not Disturb While Driving’ Mode
Aimed at increasing safety, iOS 11’s ‘Do Not Disturb Mode’ turns off notifications once the iPhone detects that its user is driving.
At the ongoing Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California, renowned tech giant Apple revealed a range of products and features for its devices. Among the new updates, was a new 'Do not disturb while driving' mode for its upcoming iOS 11.
It is a well-known fact that usage of mobile phones while driving is dangerous. A report by the National Safety Council found that mobile phone usage while driving has led to 1.6 million crashes every year and that one in every four accidents is caused by usage of mobile phones.

The new ‘Do not disturb while driving' mode seems to be Apple's solution to this problem. This feature uses the various sensors on an iPhone to detect when the owner is driving.

Upon detection, the phone activates the ‘Do not disturb while driving' mode, which automatically silences notifications, thereby turning off the screen. Apple describes this as a new way to help drivers stay more focused on the road.

Apple has provided an option to send an auto-reply to Contacts listed under ‘favourites'. The ‘favourites' would get a message saying, the users are driving and would not be able to respond to until they reach their destination.

The iPhone's sensors will be triggered as long as someone is in the car, as that is the parameter they would be searching for. However, Apple has that covered too, as users would receive a notification that, ‘Do not disturb while driving' mode is activated, and they would have an option to select the ‘I'm not driving' option if they aren't.

The new iOS 11 update will be sent to iPhone 5s and above, sixth-gen iPod touch and recent iPad models as well.
