Maruti Mini SUV XA Alpha Launch In 2013
Maruti Suzuki which recently launched its latest MPV Ertiga appears to have put plans to launch its new compact or mini SUV based on the XA Alpha concept on the fast track. Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first SUV after the Gypsy in the form of the XA Alpha concept at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The car was expected to become a production car only by 2014.
However Maruti Suzuki has decided to advance the launch of the mini SUV bey a few months. We expect to see the XA Alpha on the road by the middle of 2013. Confirming the carmaker's plans, Maruti Suzuki India CEO Shinzo Nakanishi has stated that the company would fast forward the development of the XA Alpha to take advantage of launching the vehicle earlier in the market.
The compact SUV segment is a new concept in the Indian car market. This type of car is small in size to be easily maneuverable in city roads and also come with the driving experience of an SUV. The trend has been started by the Ford EcoSport which was also unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo. Renault is set to launch its Duster in the same segment and will be followed by the mini Xylo. All these cars are expected to be launched in 2012 itself
Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha's launch was expected only by the end of 2013 or 2014. However, Mr Nakanishi's statement indicates we can see the Maruti mini SUV within a year. Maruti Suzuki is keen to enter the SUV segment in a big way. It believes increasing number of young car buyers prefer to buy a compact SUV and the XA Alpha would be the most ideal choice if if it hits the market.
The most important aspect about the Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha will be its price. While other compact SUVs such as the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport are expected to be priced under Rs.10 lakhs, The XA Alpha could beat both these models by having a lower price tag. Maruti Suzuki is a carmaker known for its intelligent pricing. If the XA Alpha's price is lower than the other compact SUVs, we can surely expect Maruti Suzuki to become the segment leader here too.
