Toyota Make Airbags A Standard Feature
The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota, has made airbags a standard standard safety feature across all its models.
After a recent crash test report conducted by the international body that monitors safety, Global New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Datsun GO were complete failures, offering zero protection to occupants in a crash.
Earlier, there were more cars tested by NCAP, vehicles like the Maruti Suzuki Alto, the Tata Nano, Ford Figo, Hyundai i10 and the Volkswagen Polo, all failed.
Volkswagen however, immediately recalled the Polo and made airbags a standard safety feature. The car was awarded 4 stars when tested after installing airbags.
Toyota, is giving no chance for NCAP to point a finger and have taken the steps to install airbags, and advertise this feature as well.
Toyota, had earlier recalled cars for an airbag issue, caused by the Japanese airbag manufacturer Takata. The airbags had chances of dispersing shrapnel, when the airbag deploys in an accident, potentially hurting the occupants.
The problem with Takata airbags was not just limited to Toyota, but affected many carmakers like Honda, Nissan, BMW, etc.
Toyota has laid the foundation for other car makers to standardise airbags as a safety feature.
