Anyone Interested In A Fast Volvo? Polestar Has Pumped Up The Safe Swedes
Swedish carmaker Volvo is known for making exceptionally safe cars. Now the biggest Volvo sedan and estate have been tweaked by Volvo's in-house performance nutters Polestar.
Polestar has tweaked the entire drivetrain of the D5 PowerPulse AWD variant of the S90 and V90 for a more responsive and dynamic drive.
Volvo has tweaked the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel so that it now produces 5bhp and 20Nm more than the normal D5 AWD variants of the S90 and V90.
The turbodieselengine now pushes out 237bhp and 400Nm of torque.
As a result of the extra power and torque along with the improvements to throttle response as well as gearshift speed and precision, both the S90 and V90 are now faster in the sprint to 100km/h from standstill.
The S90 Polestar does the sprint in 6.9 seconds while the V90 Polestar is 0.2 seconds slower with a time of 7.1 seconds.
However, unlike Polestar's previous tweaks to cars like the S60 and V60, the performance package upgrade for the larger S90 and V90 is purely mechanical.
The only way to distinguish the Polestar-tweaked variant is the small badge on the rear . However, the cars are sitting on optional 21-inch alloy wheels.
